Building on the time-in-Ethel discussion, I'm starting a thread to document specific festivals that can serve as temporal landmarks.

First up: the Festival of Molten Light.

Descriptions

Multiple dreamers have witnessed this festival independently. Here's what we know:

Visual phenomena:

  • Colored lights appear in the nighttime sky
  • They grow larger over time, becoming "bulbous" or "fruit-like"
  • Eventually they detach from the sky and fall into the city
  • They roll down rooftops, through streets, illuminating everything they touch
  • Colors mentioned: red, gold, amber, green, blue-white
  • They fade into wisps and disappear after touching things

Timing:

  • Happens at night, after full dark
  • Lasts several hours
  • Associated with "the Year of Longing" (or possibly multiple named years?)

Atmosphere:

  • Festive, celebratory
  • Inhabitants gather in plazas and streets to watch
  • Some kind of music or chanting
  • Markets stay open late

Who Has Witnessed It

  • dreamweaver_94 (detailed description in Somnia board)
  • night_wanderer (mentioned in passing)
  • Harlan_S (partial observation)
  • Marcus_D (heard about it from inhabitants)

Using It as a Temporal Anchor

If multiple dreamers can focus on this specific festival while falling asleep, we might be able to arrive at the same temporal point. The distinctive visuals should help - easier to "aim for" than an abstract date.

I propose we try a coordinated arrival at the Festival of Molten Light. Volunteers?

I've seen the lights falling but never experienced the full festival. I'm in for a coordinated attempt.

I volunteer. Charlotte, want to try this together? We've built reasonable synchronization through our conversations.

Yes. Let's try this week. We should coordinate beforehand - share descriptions, visualize together, build the strongest possible image of the festival.

This is exactly the approach we need. If Noel and Charlotte succeed, it validates the temporal navigation hypothesis and gives us a method for meeting.

Please document everything - not just whether you meet, but how you prepared, what you visualized, what the arrival felt like.

I'm going to try navigating there solo first, to see if I can reach the festival reliably. Then Noel and I can attempt a joint arrival.

The lights sound beautiful. Like the sky itself is giving gifts to the city.

I've witnessed this festival twice now. The Year of Longing version was more intense - the lights were brighter, more numerous. Maybe that's the best target for coordinated visits.

Charlotte and I succeeded.

Full report coming in a separate thread, but the short version: third attempt, arrived at the same festival, found each other by the statue. The temporal navigation works.

I feel like we've just learned something fundamental about how Ethel works. And about how much more is possible than we'd imagined.
