They're Still Recruiting
I want to update the community on what I've been seeing.
After my last post, I got hundreds of messages. Some were supportive. Some were hateful (got called a "fear-mongering shill" at least fifty times). But some were from people who were scared - people who had been approached by pre-Ammonite recruiters and didn't know what to make of it.
The pattern they described was consistent:
The Recruitment Playbook
Initial contact through mainstream spaces: They don't recruit in their own forums. They find people in r/SharedDreaming, the Ammonite forums, Tumblr dream communities. They look for people who express frustration with their progress or curiosity about "deeper" experiences.
Private messaging: They move to DMs quickly. "Hey, I noticed your post about Ethel feeling dim. I had the same experience until I found something that helped. Want to chat?"
Validation and insider knowledge: They tell you that your frustrations are valid, that the mainstream community is holding you back, that there's a "real" version of Ethel they can show you.
Gradual revelation: They don't mention migration right away. First they share Anastasia's techniques. Then they introduce you to the "other Ethel." Then you meet the goddess. By the time migration comes up, you're already deep in.
Love bombing: You're special. You're one of the few who can handle the truth. The goddess has noticed you. You have potential the others lack.
Isolation: Gradually, they become your primary community. Your old dream friends don't "get it." Only the pre-Ammonites understand what you're experiencing.
Migration as culmination: By now you've been primed to see death as transformation. They might not even have to suggest it - you might bring it up yourself.
What To Do If You're Approached
- Don't engage in private. Keep conversations public where others can see.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels like a sales pitch, it probably is.
- Talk to established community members. The mods on r/SharedDreaming can help you assess whether someone is a recruiter.
- Remember: legitimate teachers don't need to pull you away from other communities to share their knowledge.
What To Do If Someone You Know Is Being Recruited
- Stay connected. Don't push them away even if they're saying things that concern you.
- Express care, not judgment. "I'm worried about you" works better than "you're in a cult."
- Document concerning statements. If they start talking about death as a doorway, take it seriously.
- Know the resources. The suicide prevention hotline is 988. The Cult Education Institute has resources for families.
The Reality
The pre-Ammonite community is not large. Maybe a few hundred active members. But they're persistent, and they're always recruiting, and every few months another person dies.
We can't stop them entirely. But we can make sure newcomers know the warning signs. We can watch out for each other. We can make it harder for them to operate in the shadows.
If you're reading this and you're already deep in - if you're already thinking about migration - please reach out. To me, to the mods, to anyone who isn't telling you that death is a solution.
There's no rush. The realms aren't going anywhere. You have time to figure this out without making an irreversible decision.

This is exactly how it happened to me. Private messages, validation, insider knowledge. I got out because my partner noticed I was pulling away and dragged me back to reality.
Thank you for documenting this. The playbook is real.
The r/SharedDreaming mod team has been seeing increased recruitment activity in the past few months. We're updating our automods and adding explicit warnings to all sidebar resources.
If you see someone being targeted, please report it. We take this seriously.
I was in a pre-Ammonite circle for eight months. The stuff about love-bombing and isolation is 100% accurate.
What got me out was realizing that everyone who "migrated" stopped communicating entirely. If they were really alive in Ethel, wouldn't they find some way to send messages back? Dream communications, at least?
The silence is the tell. The "migrants" never come back because they can't come back. Because they're dead.
